Nawab Wajid Ali Shah

Wajid Ali Shah  (30 July 1822 – 1 September 1887) was the tenth and last Nawab of Awadh(now called Lucknow), holding the position for 9 years. Ram Asrey was established in 1805, hence we had the great honor of serving the last Nawab of Lucknow.  Believe it or not, once a topaz made of candy was presented to Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. It was so

beautifully and intricately created that even a connoisseur like him could not guess its ingredients.

Invention of Malai Paan –

But let me enumerate the most important incident which traces to the origin of Ram Asrey’s highly acclaimed and globally loved Malai-Paan (Malai Gillauri). It was just one of the regular days when the loyal well wishers of the Nawab came to us with the urgent concern of how to persuade the Nawab get rid of his habit of paan(Betel leaf). Our skills-men gave an attempt of presenting an Indian sweet made of Malai, stuffed with the richness of dry fruits and sugar ; designed and folded just like Indian paan. The Nawab instantly fell in love with the dessert and the famous Malai Pan was born.
